“Gazprom-media” intend to establish cooperation with Chinese search engine Baidu

MOSCOW, January 23. Holding “Gazprom-media” exploring the possibility of collaboration with Chinese search engine Baidu. According to General Director of JSC “Gazprom-media holding” Dmitry Chernyshenko on the sidelines of the opening ceremony, the Russian and Chinese media, it is about cooperation in the field of distribution of video content.

“Baidu has a platform, they are the biggest search engine in China, and how our video content can be presented there, will depend on the success of its dissemination”, he said.

Chernyshenko added that he expects that the agreement with Baidu, as well as some other large media agencies of China will be signed soon.

In particular, he noted that “Gazprom-media” finishes negotiations with Beijing Cable company. “Here we are talking about distribution of our products in cable networks, the cooperation with Beijing Cable will allow you to gain access to 27 million cable subscribers networks of China”, – said the head of the Russian company.

In July Chernyshenko has told that “Gazprom-media holding” plans to open R&D center in Beijing. Today he said that the centre is preparing to launch jointly with a Chinese partner. “We have already commissioned a study, and begin to test our content: how competitive is the market among other foreign content. So the work of the research centre have in fact already started,” he explained.

21 January 2016, “Gazprom-media” and “zhenminvan” that manages the information portal China’s largest newspaper “people’s Daily” signed a strategic cooperation agreement. In addition, the Russian holding company and “Shanghai media group”(Shanghai Media Group SMG) signed a Memorandum of strategic cooperation in the field of creation and distribution of film, television and digital content.

In October 2015, the film company “Central partnership”, part of “Gazprom-media holding” signed a strategic cooperation agreement c the largest organization of film distribution China Film Group. Earlier, the “Central partnership” became the exclusive distributor of Chinese cinema in Russia and Russian cinema in China under the agreement on cooperation in the field of cinematography between the two countries.
