The representatives of cruise companies recalled that the Soviet shipbuilding industry was focused on military and fishing fleet, cruise ships in the USSR was built only two in 1957. Therefore, cruise ships of the USSR bought in Europe. Now in Russia there are about hundreds of passenger ships, but half is on the verge of wear and tear, because of this fleet has declined each year by about 10%.
“The court in Europe were built specifically for the USSR. Our river system is deeper, the waves above needs a lot of sediment. So we can’t buy used ships in Europe – have or build new, or upgrade built for the USSR”, says Smolin.
