Lavrov: Russia intends to cooperate with Turkmenistan in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking


ASHGABAT, January 28. Russia expects to develop and strengthen cooperation with Turkmenistan in international and bilateral issues. This was stated on Thursday, the Russian foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the meeting with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

“Russian leader Vladimir Putin sends You the warmest wishes, happy remembers your meeting in Tehran in late November and is looking forward to a new contact, especially, has a lot to consolidate positive trends,” said Lavrov, referring to Berdimuhamedov.

“We are interested in the coordination of our actions in matters related to terrorist threats, drug trafficking, manifestations of organized crime”, stressed the Russian Minister.

He also recalled that the intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation “started to work very actively”. Lavrov noted the qualitative changes including in the agricultural field, the medical industry. “We appreciate the attention you are giving to humanitarian and cultural relations”, – he added.

“We hope that during the visit will confirm the upward trend of development of relations of Russia and Turkmenistan”, – said the head of the Russian foreign Ministry.
