MOSCOW, January 29. The Duma elections to be held on 18 September, will be scheduled in the period from 30 may to 19 June. About it reports on Friday, the website of the CEC of the Russian Federation with reference to the Deputy Chairman of the Commission Leonid Ivlev.
Ivlev held on Friday a meeting with representatives of electoral commissions of the Leningrad region, which “has informed colleagues that in the period from 30 may to 19 June 2016 in accordance with the legislation, we will see the presidential decree on appointment of elections of deputies of the State Duma”.
According to the law “On elections of deputies of the state Duma” elections are appointed by the President not earlier than 110 days and not later than 90 days before election day. Then the decree shall be published in mass media within five days. It is from the date of publication of the official start of the campaign.
Duma elections held on 18 September 2016 under a mixed system: 225 deputies will be elected on party lists, yet the same in single-mandate constituencies. At the same time in 38 regions will have elections for legislative assemblies. In six regions – Karachaevo-Circassia, Komi, Tver, Tula, Ulyanovsk regions and Chechnya – elections of heads of regions. In addition, numerous planned municipal campaign.
The term of office of the state Duma of the current convocation expires in December 2016. However in June 2015 the speaker of the lower house Sergey Naryshkin and the leaders of the factions “United Russia”, LDPR and “Fair Russia” initiated the transfer of the Duma elections in the fall and combining them with a single day of voting. Thus, as a result of amendments to the laws “On basic guarantees of electoral rights” and “On elections of deputies of the state Duma”, in the year of elections to the State Duma of the single voting day is held on the third Sunday of September, and in the interval between the parliamentary campaigns – the second Sunday in September.
