Lavrov: Iran’s nuclear issue should be resolved in the interests of international security


MOSCOW, 5 February. Russia has always proceeded from the fact that the Iranian nuclear problem must be solved in the interests of strengthening regional and international security, and nuclear non-proliferation regime. This was stated Friday by the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov at the meeting with the honorary President of the world Council of nuclear industry workers Andre Masse, handed by the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation the award “Atom for peace” for his contribution to the settlement of the situation around the Iranian nuclear program.

As reported in the Russian depodesta, in an interview with Maissa Lavrov stressed that “this award is an important confirmation that the Russian course for diplomatic settlement of crisis situations in the world is fully justified”. According to him, acting exclusively through negotiations, managed “to ensure the recognition of Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy, including uranium enrichment, under comprehensive supervision by the IAEA (International atomic energy) and the removal of all anti-Iran sanctions”.

“Russia will continue its consistent policy on the promotion of nuclear energy and strengthening of international cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy in the interests of ensuring unhindered access to the benefits of peaceful nuclear energy of all States parties to the NPT not possessing nuclear weapons, and observe their nonproliferation obligations”, – underlined in the message of the foreign Ministry after the meeting.
