In an interview with TV channel “inter” Shokin said that investigators are exploring the circumstances of the events in Kiev in February 2014, established the involvement of murder of former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. “The case is almost finished. It is clear that he (Yanukovych) was led through the people in the organization of murders on the Maidan”, — quotes the edition. 112.UA.
The attorney General also expressed hope that Yanukovych will be brought to justice after the end of the armed conflict in Eastern Ukraine. In this case, according to Shokin, “common sense and the triumph of international law will prevail and that Yanukovich will be returned to Ukraine”.
On 3 February the security Service of Ukraine reported the discovery of fragments of 23 firearms that were used at Maidan. While intelligence agencies did not specify how managed to get rifles and a machine gun, which killed people in Kiev.
From 18 to 21 February in the centre of Kiev occurred violent clashes. On 20 February as a result of a sniper shooting at protesters and militiamen killed 53 people.
In February 2015, Poroshenko said that the organization of sniper groups fired at the participants of the Maidan, was involved in the Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov. However, in October of the same year, Shokin said that the investigation has no evidence of Russian trace in the case of the shooting in the centre of Kiev.
