MOSCOW, February 10. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin sent on Wednesday a two-day visit to Iraq at the head of an impressive Russian delegation. This was reported to the office of the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation.
In Baghdad Rogozin will participate in the first 2008 meeting of the Russian-Iraqi intergovernmental Commission (IGC) and will hold meetings with the political leadership of the country: President of Iraq Fouad Massoum, the speaker of Council of representatives (Parliament) Salim al-Jabouri and Chairman of the Iraqi part of the bilateral IPC – foreign Minister of Iraq Ibrahim Jaafari.

Masum refers to the Kurdish community of Iraq, al-Jabouri to the Sunni minority, and al-Jaafari – a Shia majority. Thus, Rogozin will take part in talks with representatives of all the main forces of Iraqi society.
The meeting of the intergovernmental Commission is scheduled for February 11.
This is the first trip to Iraq as a large Russian delegation for many years. According to the data, it consists of about 90 people. Among them high-ranking officials and business representatives. According to a source in the delegation, in Baghdad, in particular, sent five Vice-Ministers (foreign Ministry, transport Ministry, energy Ministry, etc.) and the heads of large companies, including the head of “Gazprom oil” Alexander Dyukov.
“The agenda of the visit is very extensive, will be discussed issues of cooperation in the spheres of energy, agriculture, industry and other areas”, – said the source.
A separate item, according to him, the planned talks on military-technical cooperation between Russia and Iraq, in connection with which the delegation included senior officials of the FSMTC.

“Flying to Baghdad representatives of the Russian private security companies. Will be discussed the security issues of these structures and employees of Russian companies working in Iraq,” said a source familiar with the agenda of the talks.
Currently in Iraq, in particular, active in the Russian oil company “LUKOIL”, “Gazprom Neft” and “Bashneft”.
It is expected that during the visit will be discussed the improvement of normative-legal base of cooperation between Russia and Iraq. “In particular, we are considering signing between the two governments, agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investments”, – noted in the Russian delegation.
Rogozin was appointed Chairman of the Russian-Iraqi Commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation in September 2014. In March 2015 at a meeting in Moscow with foreign Minister of Iraq Ibrahim Jaafari, Deputy Prime Minister, in particular, stated that the companies of the Russian Federation are ready to return to Iraq and the Russian side is satisfied with the Baghdad security guarantees.
