The Russian permanent representative at NATO promised Russia’s response to the strengthening of the Alliance


Russia is not interested in confrontation with NATO, but in response to the strengthening of the Eastern flank of the Alliance will take appropriate action, said at the Munich security conference, Russia’s permanent representative to NATO Alexander Grushko.

He stressed that NATO “kindle a vision that Russia will attack any day of the Baltic countries, Poland, etc.” (quoted by TASS). According to Russia’s Ambassador, this question is not a real agenda for security and the real threat from Russia is not coming. Grushko also criticized the thesis of military “containment” of Russia.

“It is impossible to talk seriously about the containment of Russia, not realizing that this is policy and military planning are attempts to impose on us a scheme of confrontation of the past,” he said.

“We are not interested in their confrontation with NATO, but we must understand that we will conduct an evaluation of military planning and take all the necessary measures to protect our security, including the use of military-technical means”, — said Grushko (quoted by “Interfax”)

As notes “Interfax” Poprad Russia made after the panel discussion at the conference in Munich, Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski suggested that in the changed circumstances, to cancel that part of the Declaration NATO-Russia from 1997, in which NATO pledges not to stir in the new members of the Alliance forces and essential infrastructures.

Earlier today, during the Munich security conference, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, the Head offered the Russian leadership to publish in advance on the Internet schedule of military exercises in order to avoid “undesirable situations”. According to him, NATO and Russia need dialogue to clearly convey their intentions, attitudes and expectations. NATO Secretary General also expressed the need to expand “transparency and predictability”.
