Medvedev: Russia is ready to resume dialogue with the EU and the US, but they have to make the first move


MOSCOW, February 14. The decision of Western countries to freeze relations with Russia was pointless. Medvedev criticized Western countries that curtailed cooperation with the Russian Federation. “The solution is quite meaningless – to cease cooperation amid the difficult international environment, where we all need each other”, he said, noting that, in practice, after the breakup is often “after a while you have to play back”.

“As soon as something happens in the global agenda, in which Russia participates, the Alliance immediately inflates the cheeks, lips and says, well, we cease to communicate, suspend relations,” Medvedev said. “It takes some time, and in our ears begin to say, we actually would like to defrost, let the topic begin to work on this…”, he added. “The same applies to relations with the United States of America and the European Union”, – said the Prime Minister.

“We (restoration of relations) are ready, we want a good, advanced relations with the United States of America and the European Union”, – said the head of the Russian government.

“It’s not in our interests – to keep that tension, but if we were first told that we don’t want to chat then, of course, the first steps to restore relations must take those who have interrupted” – says the head of the government. “We are ready to discuss all issues,” he said.

At the same time, Medvedev noted that Russia insists on an equal dialogue. “If anything is to restart on a fundamentally different basis: equitable, fair, peaceful relations, based on the fact that this is not only the Russian Federation and the European Union, the United States of America,” he said.
