Some banks use the mechanism of hacker attacks to withdraw funds, said first Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia Georgy Luntovsky at the Ural forum.
“We have the assumption that credit institutions use this mechanism in order not only to hide the previous crimes or mistakes, but for the purpose of withdrawal of money from the Bank. This worries us,” — said Luntovsky (quoted by “Interfax”). According to him, in the fourth quarter of 2015 the Central Bank revoked the licenses of three banks previously subjected to a cyber attack.
Luntovsky said that in the fourth quarter of 2015 from the accounts of customers of credit and financial institutions with cyber attacks was stolen more than 1.5 billion rubles this year in a joint effort of the Central Bank, the Ministry of internal Affairs and the banking community failed to prevent the theft of more than $ 500 million rubles, he added.
“Since August of last year, we observed a significant increase of criminality in this area. Naturally, we are concerned about this situation”, — said Luntovsky.
