The presidential administration is discussing plans to create a state centre for the issuance of SSL certificates that use the Internet-shops, payment systems and public portals such as the website of the Federal tax service (FTS) and gosuslugi.ru wrote on Monday the newspaper “Kommersant”.
According to the newspaper, the plans are to provide additional security of data transmission in the Internet in the event of a conflict with foreign partners.
With reference to sources in the presidential administration and the Ministry of communications and the head of the Russian IT-companies the publication reports that the presidential administration already is working on the establishment of a public certification authority who will issue the sites SSL certificates used to encrypt the data and identification of the site when establishing a secure https connection.
The interlocutors of the newspaper emphasize that many of the sites use a secure connection. Speech, in particular, Internet-shops, payment systems, government services, where the user enters their personal data. So, on the state portal gosuslugi.ru using an SSL certificate issued by a CA the American company Comodo, while on the website of the Federal tax service nalog.ru — SSL certificate from Thawte, owned by Symantec.
“If they for some reason will revoke these certificates, it can compromise secure data transmission in Runet”,— the newspaper quoted a source close to the presidential administration.
