The penalties for bribes in 2015 amounted to 1.7 billion rubles


MOSCOW, February 16. In 2015, the Russian courts had sentenced to multiple penalties for the receipt and payment of bribes and commercial bribery a total of 1.7 billion rubles, but actually collected only 223 million reported at the seminar-meeting of chairmen of regional, provincial and national courts, the Chairman of the Russian Supreme court Vyacheslav Lebedev.

“Punishment in the form of a penalty for obtaining or giving of a bribe and commercial bribery amounted to 1 billion 700 million roubles, and for the sum of 223 million roubles, or 13 per cent,” he said.

The problem with collecting multiples of the sums of bribes fines, said Lebedev, has resulted in “an increased number of persons sentenced to imprisonment for accepting a bribe from 12% in 2013 to 22 % in 2015 (total share of persons convicted for these crimes – approx.)”.

In this regard, he recalled the proposal of the Supreme court when imposing a fine as a punishment for corruption in this sentence “to determine the type and length of punishment that may be substituted for a multiple of the fine in case of willful failure to pay on time”.

According to the Chairman of the Supreme court of Russia in 2015 in the Russian Federation “for the crime of corruption sentenced to 11,5 thousand persons, including for bribery – 1800 persons for bribery – 5 thousand”. “During receiving a bribe (in size) of up to 10 thousand rubles sentenced to 57% (of all convicted bribe – ed.)”, – said Lebedev.
