The mayor on the demolition of squatter: we aim to make the city a safe and modern


MOSCOW, February 17. The mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin, answering questions on the demolition of unauthorized construction, said that the city government has a goal to make the city “modern, beautiful, comfortable and safe.” About it the mayor wrote on his page in social network “Vkontakte”.

“With this purpose we have removed the ugly outdoor advertising, get rid of the clutter of kiosks, landscaping, pedestrian streets, yards, Parking lots, gradually freed Moscow sky from the web of wires. This job requires consistency and determination,” wrote the mayor.

Also the mayor noted that the owners of the demolished buildings know that they had to obtain permits and other documents, and no relation to legitimate businesses.

“Small business is largely support and the future of Moscow, and of the entire country. In recent years in Moscow had been privatized in favor of small businesses trading thousands of objects. Built thousands of new stores of various formats, created hundreds of thousands of jobs,” said Sobyanin.

Large-scale demolition of the retail pavilions that the city authorities have recognized the squatter, began in Moscow on the night of 9 February. Then was initiated the dismantling of the 97 objects. According to recent reports, the demolition of 85% of the buildings have already been completed, with half the sites removed all debris. All are to be demolished 104. The government plans to complete the dismantling by the beginning of March.

As stated earlier, first Deputy head state inspection for control over use of objects of real estate of Moscow Timur Zeldich, these objects are recognized as illegally constructed on several grounds: “land plots for capital construction of the city did not allocate the permission for the construction of capital facilities and the acts of commissioning of objects of capital construction, were not issued”.

For their part, the owners of buildings believe in the illegality of the demolition. Entrepreneurs claim that had the ownership of commercial properties and all the permits, confirmed the decisions of the courts.
