The Minister of youth and sports of Ukraine Igor Zhdanov, who was elected on a quota of fraction “Batkivshchyna” will not leave his post, despite the decision of the faction on its response. Led by Yulia Tymoshenko faction “Batkivshchyna” decided to withdraw Zhdanova from the government the previous evening, after the Verkhovna Rada failed to dismiss the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk. Deputies of “Batkivshchyna” voted for the resignation of the Prime Minister.
“We as a faction declare that we are withdrawing our one and only Minister of youth and sports of the government — Mr. Zhdanov, and depends on him, how he would do this choice,” — said Yulia Tymoshenko.
Ihor Zhdanov-Minister of youth and sports from December 2014. Prior to that he held the position of head of the public Council under the MFA of Ukraine, was an analyst of the election headquarters of the candidate for President Victor Yushchenko. After the events of 2013 Zhdanov was nominated as a candidate for the post of the first Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine.
Tuesday, 16 February, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said about the need for “a complete reboot” of the government, which, from the point of view of the President lost the confidence of the people in the country. “To restore trust [to the government], therapy does not need surgery” — stated the President. During voting in Parliament for the resignation of the government spoke only 194 deputies out of 226 required. For the resignation of the government during the speeches promised to vote for the faction “Block of Petro Poroshenko” (BPP), Radical party, Opposition bloc, “Fatherland” and “Self-help”.
On Wednesday morning, Yulia Tymoshenko said that the faction “Batkivshchyna” decided to leave parliamentary coalition and calls upon all parliamentarians to follow suit.
Previously, in early February, the Minister of economic development of Ukraine aivaras Abromavicius independently resigned due to blocking some reforms. February 16, President Poroshenko also asked Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin to write a resignation. According to the President, the Agency “could not obtain the confidence of society”.
