MOSCOW, February 18. Moscow regrets that Turkey continues to attempt to discredit the efforts of Russia in the fight against terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). This was stated by the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“The increase in terrorism in the region, when really we need to close ranks to combat this scourge, we see the strange, and sometimes even inadequate statements of Turkey that this rhetoric does not reduce, but rather increase only, – said Zakharov, is a question of attempts to discredit the efforts of Russia in the fight against ISIL (formerly ISIS)”.

“Islamic state” (ISIS) – an Islamist terrorist organization operating inside Iraq and Syria. Established on 15 October 2006 by the merger of 11 radical Sunni groups. The core group forming the militants, who fought with American troops during their stay in Iraq and with the forces of the government of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
The IG recognized as a terrorist organization in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Turkey, Egypt, UAE, India, Indonesia, and Russia (29 December 2014).
