Russia will convene a meeting of the UN security Council because of the situation on the border of Turkey and Syria

Russia intends on Friday, 19 February, convene a meeting of the UN security Council in connection with the deteriorating situation on the Syrian-Turkish border. This is stated in the statement of the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, posted on the Ministry’s website.

Zakharova was sformirovali the answer to the question, what steps it intends to take Russia “in connection with the statement of Turkey’s intention to send its troops into Syria”?

“We are concerned about the passage of ISIL militants (banned in Russia as a terrorist organization. —) on Syrian territory and the establishment of terrorist bases there. This undermines the efforts to launch the political settlement, said in a statement. In this regard, Russia intends to convene a UN security Council meeting to discuss this issue and introduce the draft resolution, which will contain requirements to cease any actions that undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and contrary to the UN security Council resolution 2254, as well as efforts to launch Syrian peace process”.
