The author column on the website of the “Echo” left Russia after allegations of extremism


Due to possible criminal prosecution scientist and publicist Andrei Piontkovsky left Russia. About this “echo of Moscow” told his lawyer mark Feigin.

Earlier on Friday, the 19th of February it became known that the Prosecutor General’s office found signs of extremism in the article Piontkovsky “Bomb, ready to explode”. In this article, which was published on the website of “echo of Moscow” on January 23, the author talked about the future of Chechnya as part of Russia.

The representative of the Prosecutor General’s office said that the matter was referred to the chief of investigative Department of the FSB for the decision of a question on criminal prosecution on signs of the crime, contained in part 2 of article 280 (public appeals for extremist activity committed using mass media) and part 1 of article 282 (incitement of hatred or enmity).

The reason for the test were contacting the state office of public Prosecutor of the Chechen speaker of Parliament Magomed Daudov and the Chairman of the Duma Committee on security Irina Spring. They asked to check the article Piontkovsky on extremism.

Daudov noted that “this article, in our opinion, has a blatant anti-state orientation and falls under the corresponding articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation”.

The article is still available on the website of “echo of Moscow”, but it is already deleted the last two paragraphs, which said a possible separation of Chechnya from Russia.

Piontkovsky suggested itself with all issues related to the verification of the Prosecutor’s office did, to contact his lawyer. “On issues associated with my “crime”, the symptoms of which are found the office of Mr. Gull, please contact my attorney Mark Pagina,” Piontkovsky wrote in his microblog on Twitter.
