The Russian foreign Ministry: elections in Uganda have reaffirmed the support of the people of course of the country’s leadership


MOSCOW, February 21. Russia welcomes the successful holding of General (presidential and parliamentary) elections in Uganda. This was stated by the Russian foreign Ministry.

Won by the ruling national resistance Movement (NRM), the leader of which – incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is re-elected as head of state, gaining more than 60% of the vote.

“Observers from the African community noted the generally open, peaceful nature of the election campaign and the voting process, found no serious violations that could affect results of will of the population”, – noted in the Ministry.

In Moscow “welcomes the successful holding of General elections in a friendly Uganda, which confirmed broad popular support for the policies of the leadership of the state on a stable political and socio-economic development”.
