Thus, according to him, Russia is also interested in increasing agricultural imports from the UAE, in particular, vegetables and fruits. “We would like to receive additional from UAE fruit products, taking account Turkey, which we should replace,” – said Tkachev.

He noted that at the present time, UAE acting as a transit hub for re-export of imported agricultural products in other States in the region. Russia intends to use this feature to export its products to Arab countries via the UAE, as well as to facilitate imports from third countries, said Tkachev.

“I thought the Ministry of agriculture and the government of UAE is very interested in looking at cooperation in the field of agricultural production and, of course, supplies from Russia as a country (UAE), and for the use of Arab Emirates as a transit hub,” said the Minister.

The share of agricultural products in the total volume of trade between Russia and the UAE, according to the agriculture Ministry, more than 20%. The share of agricultural products in the Russian export in UAE – 11%, imports from the UAE for 37%. Russia supplies to the Emirates mainly cereals – 80%. In addition, Russia is exporting to the country of chocolate (4,8%) and tobacco (4%). More than 90% of Russian imports from UAE – tea (78,3%) and nuts (18.9 per cent).

At the moment the UAE has already allowed export of animal products to nine Russian companies (seven engaged in the production of poultry, one beef, one is the production of finished meat products), and certified two centers of standardization and certification of Halal products.

However, the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation is confident that the opportunities of trade development have not yet been implemented (in 2015 was delivered only 300 kg of beef and 500 kg of poultry meat).

UAE is interested in deliveries of mineral fertilizers from Russia

According to the Deputy head of the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation Sergey Levin, United Arab Emirates are interested in deliveries of mineral fertilizers from Russia.

“Today, colleagues from the Ministry of agriculture of the UAE has shown significant interest to the exports of mineral fertilizers from Russia, so the product mix (Russian exports – approx.) will expand and the volume will increase”, – he noted.

Exports of cereals in UAE

Sergey Levin also said that Russia can increase grain exports to UAE with 0.5 million tonnes to 2-3 million tonnes.

“We can significantly increase the export of grain, today it is less than 0.5 million tons, and can increase it to 2-3 million tons”, – he said.

This amount is calculated taking into account re-exports from the UAE, said Levin. Thus, Russian grain will be able to go to other countries in the Middle East.

In addition, Russia may increase the export supply of meat (beef, Turkey, chicken) in the UAE, I am sure Levin.

“The supply of meat group of products today is very low, but the potential is significant, given the UAE market as a distribution hub for deliveries in the entire Arab world, from potential clients is up to 2 billion people,” – said the Deputy Minister.
