“The ferry has arrived in the Baltic from Germany and stood for unloading,” said a company representative. Aboard the ferry more than 70 trucks with a length up to 17 meters. In flight from Baltiysk to Sassnitz the ship will go back on schedule on February 26, he added.

The first flight from Baltiysk to Sassnitz “Petersburg” was released on the night of 22 February. According to “TRANS-Exim”, the loading of the ship was over 70% (60 out of 80 seats). Flight in the opposite direction was also in good download, the company said.

The decision to start operation of the line was made because of problems with the transit of freight transport between Russia and Poland that occurred in early February. Because of the impossibility of travel on the Polish territory of the transport region had to use the bypass path. “Transit point” for goods from Poland and the EU in the region was Lithuania. The length of the land route, according to experts, has increased at least 500 km, and the cost of transportation of goods increased by 30-50 or even 100%.

On 19 February the Russian Federation and Poland agreed to a temporary resumption of cargo a message to April 15, according to which each party will receive 20 thousand permits for transport. As noted Deputy transport Minister Nikolay Asaul, the agreements do not supersede the work of the ferry line from Kaliningrad oblast to Germany. “It is expected that this ferry will continue its operation after the exchange with the Polish side the necessary number of permissions”, – he declared on air of TV channel “Russia 1”.

In the Kaliningrad region believe that the line will be in demand. It has already attracted the interest of Lithuanian carriers. “They are ready to conclude contracts of lease of 20 to 30 (for combination) for each flight scheduled three times a week”, – have informed in the company “TRANS-Exim”.
