Aeroflot increased its share in the aviation market to the maximum since the USSR


In January, airlines of Aeroflot group transported 3 million passengers, which is 11.6% higher than a year ago, said in a statement. According to the Federal air transport Agency and calculations , it is more than 54% of the total number of passengers (5.54 mn), by Russian airlines for the first month of 2016. A year earlier this figure was 45.7%.

The passenger turnover of Aeroflot group in January 2016 increased by 11.6%, and the company is 9.4%.

On domestic routes the number of passengers carried increased by 19.1%, and passenger turnover increased by 13.1 per cent. The growth of the company “Aeroflot” in these parameters was 18.5 and 14.3%, respectively.

“Dynamics of indicators mainly associated with the increase in the demand for domestic transportation, the continuing growth in activity of domestic tourism and a corresponding increase freight capacity by 8.1% for the group and 7.7% for the company, including by increasing the frequency of flights on the most demanded directions”, — explained in the company. On international routes in January 2016 the number of passengers carried increased by 2.7%, while the company “Aeroflot” — on 4,6%.

The report States that the growth on international routes was observed despite the suspension of flights to the Ukraine, in Egypt and the banning of Charter flights to Turkey. The impact on the performance of the company had reduced competition on international routes by reducing frequency of flights number of foreign air carriers in Russia and the growth of transit passenger traffic of Aeroflot through Sheremetyevo airport, and the departure of the airline “Transaero”.
