The new operator of Sevastopol may serve only the owners of smartphones

SEVASTOPOL, February 26. /Corr. Janina Vaskovsky/. Mobile operator “Simobil” can only work in 3G. This is due to the fact that the frequencies to work on 2G, expected by the operator, were allocated to the Ministry of defence. About it on Friday to journalists was declared by the Director “Sevastopol Telecom” (the company-owner of the network “Simobil”) Rostislav Gromov.

“Today map “Simobil” only works in devices that support the 3G standard. The Ministry of defence took the allotted frequency range for a standard 2G. There was an incident. On the one hand, there is the decision of the State Commission for radio frequencies, which gave us the frequency. On the other hand, a significant portion of the range now occupied for military purposes,” – said Gromov.

“Simobil” started selling starter packs on 19 February. This week it sold 2 thousand SIM cards. Technical capabilities of the new network (110 reference stations) allow to serve up to 500 thousand subscribers and in the future to support the 4G mode. The owners expect to take up to 30% of the urban market links.

“Simobil” became the third mobile operator in Crimea. Since the summer of 2014 on the Peninsula runs the company “K – Telecom”, and from February 1 – local operator “Krastelecom”.
