The state Department reported that Moscow promise not to attack the opposition in Syria


Russian authorities promised not to attack Syrian rebels, which Washington considers a moderate opposition. This was stated by the official representative of US state Department mark Toner.

“The Russian authorities pledged not to target groups, which we consider the moderate opposition,” said Toner (quote via ABC News). He also noted that for Moscow, it’s time to prove the seriousness of their intent on a ceasefire and start a political transition in Syria.

The state Department expressed confidence that the ceasefire will operate successfully. Toner noticed that the terms agreed of the Higher Committee on negotiations, the Syrian democratic forces and the vast majority of the armed groups.
