The head of “Memorial” Kovalev criticized Apple for the conditions for the nomination of candidates to the Duma

MOSCOW, February 28. The President of the Russian society “memorial”, the first Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation, former Deputy of the State Duma Sergey Kovalev criticized the party “Yabloko” for the conditions for the nomination of candidates to the state Duma. Speaking at the Moscow Congress of Yabloko, he, in particular, was called “obscene” as a condition for support of Grigory Yavlinsky as candidate in presidents of the Russian Federation on elections in 2018.

“The political Committee of the party has recently adopted the following, from my perspective, a terrible decision, which was that everyone who goes on elections under the list of “Apple”, regardless whether he was a member of the “Apple” or included in the list, agrees to vote in the presidential election for Gregory Yavlinsky,” said Kovalev, a part of the Federal political Committee “the Apple”. According to him, “it’s obscene”.

Kovalev is convinced that this condition is contrary to the democratic procedure. “Democracy is a procedure. This loyalty to the democratic procedure. On the democratic procedure, it is impossible to offer the party, to offer its potential partners in electoral terms, the obligation to vote for so-and-so. It’s not done in a democracy,” he said. The head of “Memorial” urged the Congress “categorically reject” the condition and “apologize”.

Previously Apple said that the support of the political Memorandum and Yavlinsky as a presidential candidate are the conditions for the nomination of the party candidate in the state Duma.
