The Prosecutor asked to sentence Nadiya Savchenko to 23 years

During judicial debate on the trial of the Ukrainian pilot Hope Savchenko, the representative of the prosecution asked the court to sentence her to 23 years of imprisonment with punishment serving, reports TASS.

It comes to the punishment of imprisonment in a General regime colony and a fine of 100 thousand rubles.

“On set of crimes by partial addition of punishments, the prosecution considers it possible to assign Savchenko final punishment for a period of 23 years of imprisonment”, — said the Prosecutor.

At the beginning of his speech, the Prosecutor stated that the public prosecution considers the guilt Savchenko in the murder of Russian journalists in Lugansk and demanded to make a conviction. In turn, the defense intends to ask the three judges to make an acquittal.

The process takes place in the city court of the city of Donetsk of the Rostov region.

“The prosecution comes to the conclusion that the attack was deliberately carried out by not participating in the fighting civilians and Russian journalists, as there were no fortifications,” said the Prosecutor.

According to the prosecution, Savchenko, the Navigator-operator of helicopter link helicopter squadron that fought in the Donbas during his official vacation in the battalion “Aidar”.

The investigation claims that on the morning of June 17 2014 she had to adjust mortar fire near the village Stukalova beam in the Luhansk region. Being on the spot, Savchenko passed the coordinates of several civilians in the battalion and the Ukrainian military shelled them with artillery (howitzers), it follows from the case materials.

In the end, under fire were journalists VGTRK Anton Voloshin and Igor Korneluk. Voloshin died on the spot, Korneluk is in the hospital. The prosecution insists that Savchenko had committed these crimes “motivated by hatred and enmity” to the residents of the breakaway Republic. In addition, the prosecution believes that Savchenko illegally crossed the Russian border and was detained in the Voronezh region.
