Berlin has denied accusations of Kiev in flirting with Moscow

The German foreign Ministry responded to criticism from the Ambassador of Ukraine Andriy Melnyk regarding the position of Berlin in the negotiations on the situation in Ukraine, reports DW.

“There can be no question that Berlin is flirting with Moscow”, — said a spokesman for the German foreign Ministry Martin Schaefer. He explained that foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier “sober” appreciated the lack of progress in the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

“And he didn’t make the difference between those in Moscow and those in Kiev, who obviously is currently not ready for the necessary political steps in order to compromise,” explained Schaefer.

At the same time, the head of the German-Ukrainian parliamentary group Karl-Georg Wellmann said that he understands “the anxiety of the Ukrainian Ambassador and his emotions”. “But I can’t confirm the fact that we make advances to Russia. Just the opposite. Thanks to the efforts of the German government, the conflict in Eastern Ukraine managed to freeze,” — said the politician.
