Gazprom will purchase Uzbek 4 billion cubic meters of gas

The contract with Uzbekneftegaz was signed against the backdrop of worsening relations between Gazprom and the Turkmen state concern “Turkmengaz”. Companies are in dispute over the price of Turkmen gas to the Russian company.

MOSCOW, 15 Mar. Gazprom and Uzbekneftegaz signed a contract for the purchase of 4 billion cubic meters of Uzbek gas this year, according to the Memorandum Gazprom’s new Eurobond issue.

“In December of 2015, we signed a contract with Uzbekneftegaz for the purchase in 2016 Uzbek gas in the amount of 4 billion cubic meters”, — stated in the document.

In early January the head of “Gazprom” Alexey Miller has informed that the company in 2016 plans to increase gas purchases from Uzbekistan. Previous contract to buy gas from Uzbekistan and an agreement to transport gas through the territory of the country for the period 2013 to 2015 were signed by Gazprom in December 2012.

The contract with Uzbekneftegaz was signed against the backdrop of worsening relations between Gazprom and the Turkmen state concern “Turkmengaz”. Companies are in dispute over the price of Turkmen gas to the Russian company. In particular, in mid-2015, the official Ashgabat accused Gazprom that it is from the beginning of 2015 not paying his debts before the state-owned company Turkmengaz for Turkmen gas volumes.

In June 2015, Gazprom appealed to the Stockholm arbitration court with the claim to “Turkmengaz” in the matter of revision of natural gas prices.

In mid-January Turkmengaz reported that “Gazprom” from January 1, prematurely terminated a contract with him. The reason for the abrogation of the Russian holding company called serious breach of contract by “Turkmengaz”.
