The EU sanctions in respect of 146 citizens of Russia and Ukraine, and 37 legal entities will be extended until September 15, according to sources in the EU.

BRUSSELS, 7 Mar, Vladimir Dobrovolsky. EU sanctions against citizens of Russia and Ukraine, which the EU considers responsible for undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine, will be formally extended on Thursday without discussion, will remain on the list of 146 individuals and 37 legal entities, reported sources in the EU.

“The decision will be formally approved Thursday, it will be added to the list of issues (adopted without discussion) at the Council meeting on home Affairs and justice. Three people were excluded from the list because they are no longer alive,” said a diplomatic source in the EU, who wished to remain anonymous. According to him, the sanctions will be extended until September 15.

He also reported that the Committee of permanent representatives of the EU will approve the extension of sanctions on Wednesday morning, also without discussion. The normative document had already been agreed by the working group.

Another European source has confirmed this information. “The number of persons who will remain on the list – 146 persons and legal entities. 37 date – 15 September,” he said. According to him, the date of its publication in the EU Official journal not yet known.

In September 2015, the EU extended until March 15, 2016 individual sanctions, aimed at “countering the threats to the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine”. It comes to the assets freeze and the travel ban in the EU in respect of 149 individuals and 37 legal entities, including Russian businessmen and officials, and representatives of the militia and leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk national republics.

In addition to individual sanctions, the EU imposed sectoral restrictive measures against Russia — the so-called economic sanctions — which will be in effect until 31 July 2016, as well as sanctions against the Crimea, which expire on 23 June 2016.
