From 17 March 2016 in Russia it is prohibited to import peppers and pomegranates from Turkey. The ban of the Federal service for veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance explained by the systematic supply of the “regulated products infected with quarantine for Russia objects”.
The “party of the mentioned products shipped before March 17, 2016, shall be admitted for import into the territory of the Russian Federation on the results of Supervisory activities and laboratory research products”, — stated in the message Rosselkhoznadzor.
The document emphasizes that the ban on import to Russia of Turkish sweet pepper and pomegranate also applies to deliveries via third countries.
In early March, the head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert said that his Agency sees sufficient grounds for imposing ban on import of pepper from Turkey. He also added that under the restrictions can get as lettuce and cabbage.
CEO of industry portal FruitNews Irina Goat then explained that Turkey is one of the largest suppliers in Russia of sweet pepper, lettuce, and cabbage.
“The market situation as a result of the sanctions, including against Turkey, out of balance. Additional restrictions will only hurt the market: increase the supply illegally from other States that would increase the cost of products for consumers”, — said the expert.
In accordance with the RF government decree from 1 January 2016 in Russia prohibits the importation of Turkish vegetables and fruits: tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cauliflower, broccoli, fresh and dried oranges, mandarins and their hybrids, fresh apples, pears, apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums and sloe, as well as grapes, and strawberries.
From livestock production fell under the Russian embargo parts of carcasses of chickens and turkeys, and made of them the products. In addition, from Turkey as of 1 January 2016 is prohibited to import into Russia of salt, cloves and fresh, suitable for bouquets and other decorative purposes.
For the first month after the ban on the import into Russia of a number of Turkish products total volume of Turkish exports to Russia decreased by almost two-thirds, it follows from the Assembly of exporters of Turkey (TIM).
