Russia has promised to stop the export of cheese from the EU through San Marino

The representative of the Rosselkhoznadzor commented on the information “Russian newspaper” about the possible beginning of supplies via San Marino European cheeses and premium meat products.

“Here we can not talk about large amounts, for us here it is more important to prevent the supply from EU countries through San Marino. We this is unacceptable”, — said Alekseenko.

On Friday “the Russian newspaper” with reference to the National Association of wholesale-distribution centers (NORC) reported that businessmen of Russia and San Marino, had not been affected by the Russian embargo, are planning to sign an agreement on resumption of exports of European cheeses and premium meat products to Russia. According to the newspaper, the document will be signed on 18 March at the International economic forum of States — participants of the CIS.

As told by Executive Director of NARC Vladimir Lishchuk, from San Marino can be supplied a variety of products manufactured in Europe that are under embargo. In particular, the Republic may import hard cheeses, including Parmesan and meat products.

San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world. It is located in the South of Europe, surrounded on all sides by Italy. The territory of the Republic, which is not included in the EU is only 61 sq. km. According to WG, in the territory of the Republic there are 24 dairies and many companies involved smoked meat on special technologies.

The Russian government banned food imports from the EU, USA, Australia, Canada and Norway in August 2014 in response to toughening Western sanctions. In June of last year the ban was extended for a year until August 2016.
