Commenting on the statement of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko about a possible exchange of the Ukrainian pilots Hope Savchenko on “Russian servicemen”, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow “will act in accordance with law.”
Peskov also stressed that “in other respects, the decision may be taken only by the President.”
“The Russian side will act in strict accordance with the national legislation. Otherwise, the decision may be taken only by the President. What — I cannot tell,” said Sands (quoted by “RIA Novosti”).
Ukrainian pilots Hope Savchenko on March 22, was found guilty by a Russian court of being involved in the murder of two Russian journalists and sentenced to 22 years in a General regime colony.
After the verdict, with the appeal about the exchange of Nadezhda Savchenko was made by Petro Poroshenko. He offered to exchange it for the “Russian servicemen”. In his statement, Poroshenko said that earlier the President of Russia Vladimir Putin during the meeting “channel four” claimed that “after the so-called judicial decision will return Nadiya Savchenko to Ukraine.”
“The time has come to fulfil that promise” — said Poroshenko. He stressed that such an approach “consistent with paragraph six of the Minsk agreements on the exchange of all for all”.
On what the Russians referred to Poroshenko did not specify. Now two Russians — Alexander Erofeev and Evgeny Aleksandrov — are involved in criminal cases on the territory of Ukraine. Kiev, which believes the Russians “fighters FCU”, accuses them of involvement in terrorist activities. Erofeev and Aleksandrov were detained in may 2015 in Luhansk region. As was stressed in the Russian defense Ministry, at the time of travel in the Donbass, they had already separated from the Armed forces of the Russian Federation. In the defense Ministry also stressed that the Russian military are not involved in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.
An informed source, the Interfax news Agency later reported that a possible exchange of the Ukrainian pilots will take place outside of legal procedures, through political and diplomatic contacts between the two countries. “If such an exchange is possible, then only on politico-diplomatic lines, out of legal procedures. But it can take place only provided that Kiev is interested in her extradition,” — said the Agency interlocutor.
