Cultural Counsellor of the President of Russia Vladimir Tolstoy said that in place of the Minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky has resigned. Thus in the briefing, he commented on the case of plunders in the Ministry of culture, reports TASS.
“If I were the Minister of culture, I would consider myself responsible for selected team”, said Tolstoy.
He added that while “no clear guidance” in this matter: “the Decision to resign or the resignation of the Minister takes Prime Minister, President.” “I believe that corruption in the culture simply cannot exist. Inner core people involved in the culture, shouldn’t they be allowed to have a personal interest”, — said the presidential adviser.
Last week the court at the request of the FSB had arrested six persons involved in business on plunders in the Ministry of culture. In particular, one of them is the Deputy Minister Grigory Primerov. Also arrested were the Director of the Department of property management of the Ministry of culture Boris Mazo, the Director of FSUE “Centralafrica” Oleg Ivanov, Director and managing Director of Baltstroy Dmitry Sergeyev and Alexander Kochenov, as well as Advisor to the CEO of the company “Linnet-consult” Nikita Kolesnikov.

The investigators believe that Sergeev together with Kochenower arranged the contract on behalf of the Ministry of culture with the organization CJSC “Stroifaza” which received 50 million rubles for the work. According to investigators, the payment amount was too high, and the participants of the criminal group falsified certificates about performance of works.
Two days ago, “Kommersant” wrote that the head of the Commission for culture of the legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Maxim Reznik, as well as five other independent MPs have prepared a draft appeal of the city Parliament to the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, in which he proposed to send Medina to resign. The document says that the Russian culture “has become a place where easily establish historical falsification and ideological speculation.” The authors of the appeal believe that the culture “is increasingly given the role of PR-technologies at the service of the ultra-conservative and protective, to the absurd ideas”.

Deputies believe that the suspect of the investigation against Medina subordinates is grounds for his resignation “in connection with loss of trust”.
