Putin congratulated Assad with the release of Palmyra

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with the head of Syria Bashar al-Assad and congratulated him on the liberation of ancient Palmyra from the militants, reported the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

“In conversation with Syrian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his colleague with the release of the Syrian military from terrorists the town of Palmyra, noting the importance of preserving this unique historic city for world culture,” he said (quoted by “Interfax”).

Putin also promised his Syrian counterpart that Moscow would continue to support Damascus in the fight against terrorism.
