Minister of energy of Ukraine called the market price of Russian gas

The Minister of energy of Ukraine Volodymyr demchyshyn said about the readiness to buy Russian gas at market price. He said this in an interview to “RIA Novosti” on the sidelines of the nuclear security summit in Washington.

“We are confident that Ukraine will not buy Russian gas at below market price, while Russia insisted that gave us a discount. Unfortunately, in 2009, was signed disadvantageous for Ukraine agreement. So we came to “Gazprom” and asked us to supply gas at the market price. If “Gazprom” will offer us the market price, there is no political task is not to agree to it,” — said demchyshyn.

In response to the question, what, in his opinion, price is the market, the head of Ministry of Ukraine said: “In my understanding, the market price is now significantly below the $180 for 1 thousand in cubic m”.

According to Demchishin, now Kiev can buy gas in Europe for about $170 for 1 thousand cubic meters, while Russia offers $185 from April 1.

Demchyshyn added that he talked with the head of the energy Ministry of Russia Alexander Novak about the trilateral talks with Evrokomissii, and now Kiev is waiting for a response from the Russian side. “We are very comfortable working in a trilateral format. If there were any disputes, we always had the referee,” said Demchyshyn.
