However, in the evening, according to Deputy defense Minister of Armenia Davit Tonoyan, in the conflict zone was still “occasionally” sound shots. “The enemy violated the ceasefire regime, currently in different areas are firing, but with less intensity compared to previous days,” said a spokesman for the defense Ministry of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Senor Hasratyan.

The loss of the parties

Four days of hostilities, the parties announced large losses of their opponents.

On 4 April, the chief of the operational Department of the defense Army of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Colonel Victor Arstamyan reported that the loss of Azerbaijan consisted of 18 tanks, three armored vehicles, one engineering technician, two helicopters, six drones, one installation “Grad” MM-21, more than 300 soldiers. Azerbaijan has recognized the death of 16 soldiers in the period from 4 to 5 April, about the deaths of 12 servicemen of the defense Ministry of the Republic reported on 2 April.

The Azerbaijani defense Ministry insists that from 2 to 5 April, it was destroyed more than 370 soldiers of the enemy, 12 tanks, 12 armored vehicles and 15 artillery systems. Nagorno Karabakh recognizes the loss of 20 servicemen, wounding 72, a loss of seven tanks (about it it is spoken in the message of the NKR defense army for 4 April). 26 servicemen are listed as missing.

Also, the NKR defense army reported on 4 April on the loss of their five positions on the South and three on the North. On Tuesday, Deputy defense Minister of Armenia Tonoyan assured that he lost no positions. However, the Ministry of defense of Azerbaijan reports that the occupied territories have on them are carried out strengthening work.

The maximum that managed to Azerbaijan, is to move inside to a depth of about 1 km in the South of Nagorno-Karabakh, in the North the depth of the advance was approximately 200-300 m used its own estimates as of April 4, Russian military expert Victor Murakhovsky. In his opinion, such a shallow depth of promotion shows that the major operational problems was not, the conflict could spontaneously ignite as a result of reconnaissance units with the involvement of a growing number of people. According to another Russian expert Vladimir Yevseyev, a truce party went after restoring the front lines: first, the Azerbaijani side has captured seven strongholds and broke through two lines of defense, but in the following days, the Karabakh party regained control over them.

Negotiations have stopped fighting

Agreement on ceasefire was reached due to the fact that the negotiations began, explained Hasratyan from the Ministry of defence of the NKR.

The negotiations have proceeded in several directions. In Vienna brought together representatives of co — chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk group (Russia, USA, France, Belarus, Finland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Turkey). In the final statement, the participants condemned the unprecedented outbreak of violence along the line of contact and called for an immediate cessation of military actions. It was also decided that representatives of the co — chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk group will visit Baku, Yerevan and the NKR capital Stepanakert. In Baku they will arrive on 6 April, in Nagorno — Karabakh on 7 April.

In Moscow the President of Russia Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. This is the first official negotiations of the presidents since the beginning of the escalation on Saturday. On Tuesday, Putin urged Aliyev and Sargsyan to urgently ensure the full cessation of hostilities and respect the ceasefire. Russia is implementing and will implement the necessary steps to help normalize the situation, said the Kremlin following the results of negotiations.

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Ali Hasanov in his interview to the Turkish channel said that Baku always respect the decisions of the UN Security Council, the appeals of the OSCE Minsk group. However, in his opinion, these structures do not exert any pressure on Armenia, which does not show respect to them.

Adviser to the NKR representative office in Moscow Arsen Melik-Shahnazarov, in conversation with also said that all the time from the onset of meremere in 1994, the international community and the OSCE Minsk group, were moving away from naming a specific culprit in the outbreaks of violence that does not contribute to the settlement. This time the international community has also gone from naming the culprit, he said.
