Co-owner of the Ukrainian metallurgical company “Industrial Union of Donbass” Oleg Mkrtchyan, who is a shareholder and principal owner of football club “Kuban”, said on Wednesday that he could not continue to invest in the team due to the limited financial possibilities. He said this at a meeting with Governor of Krasnodar Krai Veniamin Kondratyev, said in a statement on the official website of the regional administration.
“Today I am not able to fully Fund the FC “Kuban” — are his words in the message. He explained that this is due to “current economic situation”. In this case, Mkrtchyan offered “free of charge” to transfer the club’s shares of the regional administration and stressed that it will continue to invest in business projects in the region.
The message of the administration noted that the Governor “was sympathetic to the request, thanking Oleg Mkrtchan for participation in the life of the football club”.
The General Director of club Valery Statsenko told TASS that the administration of the Krasnodar territory will become the sole investor of the club. “Indeed, Oleg Artushevich [Mkrtchyan] refused to Finance “Kuban” and transferred the shares to the regional administration. Now the Krasnodar territory will become the sole investor of the club,” said the CEO.
The Mkrtchyan is co-owner and CEO of the company “Industrial Union of Donbass”. In 2008, as a result of the auction, he became the owner of a controlling stake in FC “Kuban” — 75%. In April 2015 the proportion of Mkrtchan was reduced to 50%. The head of the Krasnodar football Federation Ivan Peronko then explained that the decision was made “given the situation, in what turned out to be his [Mkrtchan] business in Donetsk”. The Mkrtchyan is also one of the co-founder and sponsor of the Donetsk club “metallurg”.
March 30, the striker of the team “Kuban” Roman Pavlyuchenko told “R-Sport” about the delays in salary. He said that the delay is six months and that the players are ready to boycott the games. The next day the Krasnodar Directorate of the Investigative Committee announced that it is conducting pre-investigation checks on media reports about unpaid salaries to the players. And Vice-Governor of Krasnodar region, member of the Board of Trustees of the club Nikolay Doluda said TASS that debts will be repaid in the next few days.
March 31 the club had a message about meeting players and coaches with the leadership of Krasnodar region, held on 31 March. The report noted that “on any financial issues” an understanding has been reached. Following the meeting, a decision was made on repayment of debts “in the next week”, while in February the debt has already been repaid.
Before Pavlyuchenko in an interview with “Soviet sport” said that the payments began. “Most of the debt is already extinguished,” he said. He also told me that the club now has new leadership. On specifying question, whether the new management people from the administration of the province, he replied in the affirmative. Wednesday Statsenko told TASS that “Kuban” has completely extinguished debts before players on the team.
