The head of the General staff of Austria decided to communicate with Russia in spite of “decree”


Armed forces of Austria is ready to cooperate with Russia, despite the recommendations of other world powers, said the chief of staff of the armed forces of Austria Lieutenant-General Otmar Command at the meeting with his Russian counterpart first Deputy head of the Ministry of defense of Russia, army General Valery Gerasimov.

“Austria and Russia have a long history of relations, and, unfortunately, due to the development of the situation in Europe in recent years, it was not possible to invite Mr. General to Austria. We feel guilt for it. We hope that with our help, the situation will improve in subsequent years will be your visit”, — said Gerasimov Command (quoted by “Interfax”).

He noted that one of the reasons for his visit to Moscow was his unwillingness to follow the directions of a number of countries. “I’m not going to follow directions and obey someone else’s orders, with whom to communicate and with whom not to communicate. That’s why I wanted to visit you”, said the Austrian General.

According to him, in Austria, see what global changes are taking place in the world. “Only together we can solve these problems. Russia and Austria are much closer than the other great powers of our world. Thus, we are ready within our capacity to work together where it makes sense” — said Command.

Previously arrived in Moscow the Federal President of Austria Heinz Fischer. During the meeting with the Chairman of the state Duma Sergei Naryshkin, he stated that EU sanctions against Russia are unfavorable for both sides. The President noted the necessity of finding a path that would lead to the lifting of the measures.

“Our position in these discussions [in the EU] also includes the question that you need to consider all the possibilities of the development of relations between Russia and the European Union. The key will be to find such path, a common path for all of us to develop it, which would be in the near future to the withdrawal of the majority of these sanctions,” explained Fisher (quoted by “RIA Novosti”).

On the website of the Kremlin reported that on Wednesday, Fisher will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks “will discuss a wide range of issues of Russian-Austrian cooperation in trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres”. It also assumes “in-depth exchange of views on topical international and regional problems”. In particular, with regard to the Austrian presidency in the OSCE in 2017 “special attention” will be paid to security on the European continent, noted in the Kremlin.
