Russia helped free Americans in Syria at the personal request of Obama


That President Barack Obama personally appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to assist in investigation of American citizens who could be in Syria, said the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova. Her commentary was published on the website of the Ministry in connection with the release in Syria of US citizen Kevin daws, with the assistance of the Russian authorities.

“Some time ago, U.S. President Barack Obama appealed to President of Russia Vladimir Putin with a personal request for assistance in the investigation American citizens who could be in Syria. As a result, it turned out that one of them – Kevin daws, was held under arrest for illegal penetration in this country and other offences. In response to our appeal to the Syrian authorities saw fit to show mercy and to release the Americans on humanitarian grounds,” — said Zakharov.
