By the end of 2017 in circulation in Russia will be issued new banknotes with denomination of 200 rubles and 2000 rubles., announced the Bank of Russia. In the Central Bank believe that by this time inflation in Russia will fall to 4%, which will make the issue of banknotes “intermediate values” (now in Russia issued banknotes of 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rbl.) is economically justified.
The head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said that the amount of the issue of banknotes of new denominations has not been determined, but the issue of banknotes of new denominations will not affect the volume in circulation of cash. The old banknotes of denominations specifically be withdrawn from circulation and the total money in circulation, according to the head of the Central Bank, will be maintained by removing the old bills.
“We proceed from the fact that the cost of production of the new denomination will be under the usual cost estimates of the Bank of Russia”, — said Nabiullina (quoted by “Interfax”). She also expressed confidence that the new banknotes will make cash payments more convenient and will help the Russians to save time when paying for goods and services.
In the near future the Bank of Russia plans to design new banknotes, including to decide on the kinds which Russian cities will be represented. To trust the choice of plans by the Russians in the summer of 2016, the Central Bank together with one of Federal TV channels will start the voting, the results of which will decide who “gets money”.
