The Russian Ministry of justice suspended the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars. This is stated in the message published on the official website of the Department.
The Majlis has made to the list of public and religious whose work is suspended for extremist activity. The Department explained that this was done on the basis of the decision of the Prosecutor of the Crimea Natalia Polonskaya.
Poklonskaya has suspended the activities of the Mejlis in the middle of last week. According to her, this was done “to prevent violations of the Federal legislation.”
On 17 March the Supreme court of the Crimea started to consider the claim of the public Prosecutor about the ban in Russia of the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars. In its lawsuit, the Prosecutor of the Crimea asked to recognize the Mejlis an extremist organisation.
