According to the leader of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, the Mejlis calls on the EU to tighten sanctions against Russia, in particular — to consider the introduction of an embargo on Russian energy.
“Against the background of intensified repressions against the Crimean Tatars, our task — to make so that the international community was inclined to tougher sanctions against Russia”, — said Chubarov in the air Hromadske.tv.
He noted that the Majlis calling to disconnect Russia from the SWIFT banking system and the introduction of a temporary embargo on oil from Russia.
“I also talked about the fact that European countries considered the question of the possible, though temporary embargo on energy supplies from Russia, particularly oil,” — said Chubarov.
Earlier in April, Chubarov urged not to exclude the military factor in discussing the issue of returning Crimea to Ukraine. “The military factor can’t just be discarded. We need to do our part “homework” — the strengthening of the army. We need to pay special attention to the fleet, but only forces of Ukraine to at least just the presence of military power to force Russia not to engage in further nonsense, we are not able, — at us is so not enough forces,” — said Chubarov.
The Mejlis was founded in 1991. In 2014, the leaders of the organization refused to recognize the referendum on accession of Crimea to Russia, but later left the Peninsula. April 18 the Russian Ministry of justice suspended the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatars in connection with extremist activities. The decision was made on the basis of the Prosecutor of the Crimea Natalia Polonskaya. April 26, the Supreme court of the Crimea banned the activities of the Mejlis in Russia, declaring it an extremist organization.
