The permanent representative of Russia spoke about the transfer of military before joining the Crimea


In the first quarter of 2014, the Russian Federation urgently transferred to the Crimea and 9 thousand soldiers, their movement was by air. This was told in an interview with DW, Russia’s permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov. The diplomat clarified that the Russian military on the territory of Crimea in March 2014 were in compliance with the law.

“In accordance with the bilateral agreement between Russia and Ukraine of 1997, Russia was granted the right to military presence in Sevastopol, where the main base of the black sea. – Ed.) fleet, as well as all over the Crimea in an amount of not more than 25 thousand people of the personnel”, — said Chizhov. At the beginning of the Crimean crisis on the Peninsula was located 16 thousand Russian soldiers, the diplomat added. “The gap in 9 thousand people were quickly filled by sending additional reinforcements by air”, — said Chizhov.

In the same interview, Chizhov has denied the presence of active Russian troops in the Donbass.
