St. Petersburg authorities asked them to increase the cost of the stadium “Zenit-arena”


The construction Committee of St. Petersburg has addressed in Legislative Assembly with a request to establish an adjustment in the city budget the increase in the cost of the football stadium “Zenit arena”, which is being built for the world Cup 2018, RUB 4.3 billion “Interfax” reported in the budget and Finance Committee of the legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg.

Thus, the cost of the St. Petersburg stadium under construction on Krestovsky island, can grow from RUB 34.9 billion to 39.2 billion rubles.

According to the representative of the Committee, the increase in the estimates due to the change of the ruble, and clarification of the requirements of law enforcement agencies to ensure anti-terrorist security object.

The meeting, which should be a decision made about the increase in the estimate of 4,327 billion rubles, will be held on Monday at 14:00 GMT, said the interlocutor of “Interfax”.

Earlier, the authorities of St. Petersburg declared that the cost of construction of “Zenit Arena” will not increase and will remain at the level of 34.9 billion rubles., despite the difference in exchange rates. Later, however, the city administration has prepared a request for additional funding of the stadium for 450 million rubles.

The construction of the stadium on Krestovsky island started in 2006 and initially it was assumed that the arena will be commissioned in 2009, but the completion date was constantly moved. After Russia won the right to host the world Cup in 2018, the stadium project was sent back for revision, to fully meet the requirements of FIFA. The total cost of building the arena is also constantly growing. Initially it was assumed that construction costs will amount to 6.9 billion rubles.

World Cup 2018 will be held in 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities: Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Sochi and Rostov-on-don.
