The Governor of Ryazan region Oleg Kovalev may prematurely leave his post. About this newspaper “Kommersant”, citing sources close to the presidential administration and the government.
According to the publication, Kovalev, whose powers on a post of the head of the region were to end in October 2017, may retire at his own request. The sources say that the decision could be taken by the Governor in connection with the condition.
“Age does not allow him to be as active as before. And now in the current socio-economic situation the Manager is required maximum return”, — the newspaper quoted one of his companions.
After retiring from the post of Governor Kovalev, according to the newspaper, can go to work in the Federation Council. However, he will be a candidate in single-mandate constituency on the election to the Ryazan regional Duma, the newspaper notes.
Among the potential successors Kovalev to the post of Governor newspaper calls one of the leaders of the primaries in single-mandate constituency in the area of the co-regional headquarters of the popular front, a state Duma Deputy Andrei Krasov, as well as Igor Morozov, who in the last election as a candidate from the “Patriots of Russia” could be serious competition for Kovalev, but refused to fight in exchange for the post of Senator. Among other possible successors called zampolpreda the Central Federal district Andrei Yarin, who in 2004-2005 served as Vice-Governor—the head of the government of the Ryazan region, and later headed the government of Kabardino-Balkaria, then in different positions worked together with the presidential Plenipotentiary envoy Alexander Beglov.
