Putin said Medvedev’s words about the indexation of pensions

The government pays great attention to social obligations, said Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also urged to consider the words of Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev about the lack of money for the indexation of pensions, depending on the context.

“The government is committed to fulfil our social commitments. I can not exactly tell you. I have not seen that Dmitry Anatolyevich [Medvedev] said about it. You can always or out of context as such to take some phrase, or to take from common conversation, too, according to all coincide, but in the spirit meaning can otherwise look”, — Putin said, answering the question of how he evaluates the work of the government in the social sphere and the Prime Minister Medvedev (quoted by “RIA Novosti”).

The President stressed that the government is attentive to the fulfillment of social obligations.

“If you look at the whole context of the conversation, I don’t know about that, but I know for sure that the government pays great attention to the fulfillment of social obligations”, — he said.

According to Putin, he regularly collects the meeting on this issue, and above all, the authorities are studying measures to support those groups of the population, the income of which, to put it mildly, are modest”.

“Well, of course, in today’s difficult situation with the budget, the government is forced to seek different solutions to these issues. These options are what can be? Or to index social security benefits, including pensions, is not even consistent, for example, with budget revenues. Or try, on the one hand, to index to some value, but to take all measures for suppression of inflation”, — said the President.

The President stressed that if funds are available the government will find a way to help people.. And among them, of course, first and foremost, we will think about the seniors. So no doubt there can be that the government is addressing this issue”, he concluded.

The head of the government Dmitry Medvedev during a visit to Feodosia on may 23, told residents of Crimea that the Russian government has no money for the indexation of pensions. In response to a complaint of an elderly woman on a small pension Medvedev explained that indexing of “nowhere”.

“Just no money. Find the money — will do the indexing. You stay here, you all the best, good mood and health”, — said the head of government.

A spokesman for Prime Minister Natalia Timakova later said that the decision to abolish the second indexation of pensions in Russia is not yet accepted. The ability to index will be evaluated after summing up the economic development of the first half, she said. “This year the government has already indexed pensions, and at the same time the Prime Minister said that economic results of the first half will decide on the second increase of 4%,” — said Timakova. She reminded that there is still 1.5 months in order to assess the socio-economic situation” and then and itself of this opportunity.
