At the talks in Athens, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras discussed energy cooperation. Putin said that Moscow will no longer participate in joint European Union projects without the prior guarantees.
“We were focused on the implementation of South stream, but we weren’t able to do it. Under US pressure, the European Commission and the Bulgarian government was forced to cease cooperation”, — Putin said the history of the collapse of the project “South stream”.
According to him, Russia has incurred costs in cancellation of the project. However, Moscow hopes that the project will be implemented Nord stream 2″ and retains the interest with the projects in the South.
“We need a pre-warranty. The words that this is of great interest, we will not buy and spend money on it will not” — said the Russian President.
Tsipras interest in energy projects did not hide. “We do not hide that our strategic intention is to transform Greece into an energy hub” — said Tsipras.
“Energy should act as a bridge of cooperation in the region, and not as a springboard to dictatorship”, — said Greek Prime Minister.
