Russia informed US about the presence of “interesting materials” in the case of Browder


The Prosecutor General’s office of Russia sent to the US authorities a notification that a “person of interest” materials for the verification of transactions with shares of “Gazprom” in the period from 1997 to 2005, which, according to the Russian law enforcement authorities, were illegally organized with the participation of the head of Fund Hermitage Capital.

“We notified the U.S. that we have a very large number of materials of interest for the verification of dubious transactions with shares of “Gazprom”, but the official answer have not received”, — have informed “RIA Novosti” by the official representative of the Prosecutor General Aleksandr Kurennoy.

Earlier, in late may, the Ministry reported that it plans to appeal to the US request for international legal assistance in checking illegal transactions with shares of “Gazprom”. The Prosecutor General’s office planned to ask the US to verify transactions with shares of “Gazprom” for compliance with us law.

“We sent an appeal on rendering international legal assistance to our colleagues from the United States with a request to verify these transactions for compliance with us financial and tax laws, as well as to provide the necessary information about the scheme for the withdrawal of Russian assets to complete investigation in the territory of Russia and transfer of business to court”, — said the Agency “Interfax” on June 9, the representative of the Prosecutor General, adding that the response from the American side has not yet been reported.

In Russia investigates criminal case on the illegal acquisition in the period from 1997 to 2005 at least 200 million shares of “Gazprom”, the tax evasion and deliberate bankruptcy of companies.

According to investigators, the shares were purchased by the investment Fund Ziff Brothers Investments through a network of U.S. and offshore companies, subsequently, the shares were transferred to the Cypriot company, and the money received under the form of dividends derived in another entity. According to law enforcement, one of the leaders in this process was William Browder.

Since 2005, Browder officially denied entry to Russia in 2013, the court sentenced him to nine years in a penal colony for swindle in especially large size.

At the end of December last year, the media reported a new criminal case against the financier in connection with the illegal acquisition of more than 131 million shares of “Gazprom” in the period from 1997 to 2004 on inter-market price worth more than 2 billion rubles.
