The Libyan army drove the militants from the port city of Sirte

As informs “bi-Bi-si”, the storming of the port was preceded by a massive bombardment from the air and from the sea. In the result, the troops managed to break into the port and release it from the militants of the “Islamic state” (banned in Russia as a terrorist organization).

The official representative of Libya’s Ministry of defense, General Mohammed al-Husri, after the defeat in the port area of the commanders of ISIS have fled into the wilderness, but in the center of Sirte are still dozens of militants resisting the army. Under their control remains and the Palace of congresses Wagadugu, which was built during the reign of Muammar Gaddafi.

Sirte – the largest settlement outside of Syria and Iraq controlled by militants of the “Islamic state”.

In the Sirte – hometown of Muammar Gaddafi. It’s what the Libyan leader had fled after the capture of Tripoli by the rebels in 2011 and was murdered while trying to escape.
