NATO approved a package of assistance to Ukraine

The defence Ministers of member countries of the Alliance approved a package of assistance to Ukraine, which includes including consultation and various support, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the press conference following the meeting of the Commission NATO-Ukraine on 15 June in Brussels, reports.

“We discussed security issues. We discussed reform. And we have sent our support. The situation in the East of Ukraine, caused by Russia’s actions, remains a cause for concern,” he said.

NATO sees Russia’s actions in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine as violation of international law is “the power istinye borders for the first time since the Second world war,” and urges the Russian authorities to “return to compliance”.

“In response to Russia’s actions NATO’s increased support for Ukraine. The level of political and practical support in 2014 has been unprecedented. And today we decided to do more,” — said the NATO Secretary General.

According to him, the aid package approved by Ministers on 15 June, aimed at strengthening of systems of defense and security and the strengthening of civil control over them. “We have already carried out projects in the framework of the trust Fund that we created in Ukraine”, — said Stoltenberg, adding that we are talking about works in the field of command and control, logistics, cyberagent and rehabilitation of wounded soldiers. NATO also develops new projects, in particular in the field of combating the threat of hybrid war.

Earlier the mission of Ukraine to NATO announced about the conclusion of an agreement with the Alliance to provide Ukraine military support. “Supply contract” will help Kiev to get rid of dependence on the Russian defense industry, said the mission. Kyiv thus “deepen cooperation with NATO with the aim of diversifying sources of technical support of the armed forces of Ukraine”.
