Putin expressed readiness to meet Europe

Russia was not the initiator of the collapse, disorder and problems,” the imposition of sanctions, said the President of Russia Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg international economic forum (SPIEF).

“All our actions were and remain exclusively back. But we, that is, as we have the saying, evil does not hold and ready to meet our European partners, but it certainly can’t be a one-sided game”, — he stressed.

Putin urged the European Union to restore cooperation with Russia. “We need to regain the trust in European-Russian relations and to restore the level of cooperation,” he said.

The President proposed to resume the dialogue with the EU “technical level”. “I repeat, we are interested in the fact that the Europeans have joined the great project of the Eurasian partnership. In this regard, welcome the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan for consultations between the Eurasian economic Union (EEU) and the EU. Yesterday we discussed this issue at the meeting with the President of the European Commission”, — he said.

“In addition, as the first counter step, it would be possible to resume the dialogue at the technical level between experts on a wide range of issues. It is the trade, investment, technical regulation, customs administration,” — said the head of state.

Thus, according to him, it will be possible to develop the basis for further cooperation and interaction. “And of course, we consider it important to continue cooperation in the framework of major research projects, such as nuclear rector, ITER, x-ray free electron laser and a number of others. Joint efforts will allow us to significantly increase the technological competitiveness of both Europe and Russia,” said Putin.

He recalled that in 2015 Russia have invested in joint Europe vysokotehnologichnye projects €1.2 billion.

In November of last year, as soon as Ukraine established a ceasefire, the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, addressed to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, proposing to establish closer trade relations between the EU and the Russia-led Eurasian economic Union. The Kremlin has refused this idea.

In may of last year it became known about prepared for the meeting of EU foreign Ministers a document in which, in particular, it was proposed to establish official relations between the EU and the Eurasian economic Union if Russia will not interfere with the articles of the Association agreement between the EU and the Ukrane.
